Main Street invites you to seek your “field of
dreams” and move to Bloomfield.
Read what John Wilcox has to say
about “coming home”:
Just a few weeks after graduating
from DCCHS in 1964, I was an airman in the U.S. Air Force, starting
a 40-year career that took me all over the world. That career took
me to New Mexico (twice), the war (twice), Texas, Great Britain, and
Alaska. In none of those places did I find as much to return to as I
did right here in Davis County. Alaska managed a distant second
place.
When you look at all the factors for choosing a place to live when
you can live anywhere, there truly is no place like home. My wife
Jennie and I wanted a home in a small town that had four seasons,
excelled in educational opportunities, had a low cost of living, and
didn’t suffer from chronic water shortages. Great local medical care
played no small place in our concerns. All that and more is right
here, but I already knew that. It took only one visit to convince
Jennie.
We now have a home at 5 Country Club Drive and hope to have the one
in Texas sold soon so Jennie and the dogs can join me. I look
forward to getting together with old friends, and new ones, as I
find volunteer work to keep me busy in my retirement.

Former resident says
Bloomfield is special
I was recently in Bloomfield to attend the funeral
of Joanette Davis-Schott. Even though it was tragedy that brought me
to Bloomfield, I had the chance to visit with several of my
classmates.
Later, as we were talking about Joanie and what
brought her back to Bloomfield, as well as several of my classmates,
we discussed Bloomfield and why we think of Bloomfield in such a
peaceful manner and why we always enjoy returning.
Our conclusion was that Bloomfield was our “field
of dreams.” We grew up in a bubble of a small town where all the
families seemed to know each other, interact with each other and
like each other. We were protected from the real world and what we
had to face as adults as we left Bloomfield. It was a kinder and
gentler time in which we felt safe, protected and at peace.
And that is why we return to Bloomfield to visit
and in some cases return to stay. We are looking for peace, safety
and security. We find it in Bloomfield. I think Joan Schott found it
there. And so have others who have moved back.
It’s what makes Bloomfield special. And it’s
calling to all of us to return
